About Company

Freeport LNG Development, L.P., founded in 2002, initially operated as a liquid natural gas (LNG) import and regasification facility. It has since evolved to primarily operate as a natural gas liquefaction and LNG export facility. This facility is strategically located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas, approximately 70 miles south of Houston. Its core function is to connect U.S. natural gas producers and midstream companies with global LNG demand centers, facilitating international energy trade.

Job Description

This role is for a Commercial Intern at Freeport LNG Development, L.P., embedded within its Commercial Department.

Team Profile

The Commercial Department is a multifaceted team responsible for a broad range of activities essential to the company’s operations:

Toller Services: Manages the negotiation and implementation of export tolling agreements, oversees the planning and scheduling of LNG cargos, handles feed gas and power logistics, manages vessels, integrates marine logistics, and maintains strong customer relations.
Commercial Execution: Focuses on commodity procurement and scheduling, and coordinates extensively with electricity utility, ISO (Independent System Operator) counterparties, and various gas suppliers.
Commercial Operations: Aims for capacity optimization and forecasting through close integration with facility operations, engineering, and maintenance departments. It also coordinates with upstream pipelines for interconnection, scheduling, and balancing.
Corporate Support: Provides crucial back-office functions including commodity settlement and position reporting, energy balance and inventory management, settlement and allocation of power costs, and commodity sales invoicing.
Middle Office: Dedicated to risk management, trade confirmations, support and maintenance of the ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) system, and corporate reporting.

Internship Scope

As a Commercial Intern, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional team, actively engaged in addressing real-world operational and commercial challenges specific to one of the largest LNG export facilities in the nation. This internship is ideally suited for students with robust academic backgrounds in engineering, supply chain, or economics, who possess a keen interest in applying analytical and systems-thinking skills to the commercial aspects of energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The Commercial Intern will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:

• Providing support for engineering and operations-driven analyses aimed at optimizing energy flows, power usage, and LNG scheduling.
• Conducting forecasts and scenario modeling using actual operational and/or financial data.
• Assisting in cross-functional projects that directly influence asset performance, throughput efficiency, and pipeline balancing.
• Participating actively in routine commercial reporting and data visualization tasks, which are critical for informing decision-making across both technical and commercial functions.
• Contributing to improvements in inventory balance modeling, inventory analytics, commodity invoicing and settlements, and/or scheduling automation.

Knowledge & Experience Required

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization.
• Experience with Visio, VBA, SQL, and/or Power BI is considered a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in the modeling and analysis of complex numerical data with a high degree of accuracy.
• A strong passion for the industry and a genuine interest in energy systems, LNG value chains, and operational optimization.
• Comfortable working collaboratively across both business and technical teams.
• Values collaboration and possesses the ability to work closely with colleagues to support the design and delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Adherence to best practices and maintainability standards, coupled with a willingness to freely share knowledge with colleagues.
• The ability to learn to synthesize historical and forecast data effectively.
• Must be available to work in the Houston, TX headquarters without relocation or housing assistance. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to continue the internship on a part-time basis year-round.

Preferred Experience

• A Rising Junior or Senior actively pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• Anticipated graduation date of May 2026 or later.
