Job Title: Civil Engineering Student Intern

About the Opportunity at Consor:

Embark on an exciting journey with Consor as a Civil Engineering Student Intern, where your academic knowledge meets real-world application. At Consor, we don’t just build infrastructure; we build careers and communities. You’ll join a vibrant network of water and transportation professionals, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in planning, engineering design, structural assessment, and construction services. This is more than an internship; it’s an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that shape inspiring communities, all while growing your potential within a supportive and collaborative environment. Experience the best of both worlds: the vast resources and nationwide expertise of a large consulting firm, coupled with a close-knit, community feel at the local level.

Your Day as a Civil Engineering Student Intern:

As a key member of our team, you will dive into a variety of civil engineering-related tasks, providing crucial support across different project phases. You’ll assist with essential project research, conduct preliminary design calculations, and contribute to collecting and maintaining vital project documentation. Reporting directly to a dedicated Project Manager, you will gain direct insights into project leadership and contribute significantly to project delivery.

Compensation:

This internship offers a competitive pay rate of $20 – $25 per hour.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design & Documentation: Assist in the preparation of critical project documents, including detailed reports, accurate cost estimates, comprehensive specifications, precise design calculations, and construction material quantities.
  • CAD & Software Proficiency: Utilize cutting-edge computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering software to draft working plans and intricate detailed drawings, translating concepts into actionable designs.
  • Data Analysis & Revision: Analyze and revise various project data, such as maps, charts, exhibits, diagrams, as-built maintenance records, and layouts, ensuring accuracy and optimizing designs.
  • Construction Support: Participate actively in support tasks during construction phases, including responding to submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs), gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle.
  • Site Visits: Join the design team on project site visits, offering you firsthand experience of project execution and the chance to see your designs come to life.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Academic Enrollment: Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited university, actively working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Coursework Completion: Have successfully completed core civil engineering coursework and are currently undertaking upper-level division coursework.
  • Software Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This is a hybrid position, balancing work between a professional office environment and dynamic field settings. In the office, you’ll routinely use standard office equipment like computers, phones, and copy machines. Field work may occasionally expose you to varying conditions, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, potential hazards, atmospheric conditions, and proximity to bodies of water, depending on specific project requirements.

Physical demands for this role frequently include sitting, moving, standing, talking, and hearing. Occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling may also be required. The job may occasionally involve operating a company vehicle and necessitate lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 35 lbs.
