About the Job: Cemetery Caretaker
This position is responsible for the care and upkeep of the cemetery for the City of Clermont, working under general supervision. This is a non-exempt position.
Veteran’s Preference

Key Responsibilities / Essential Duties
- Performs duties related to the enhancement, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of a 40-acre cemetery.
- Conducts preventive maintenance, receives and responds to repair work orders, and completes records regarding work performed.
- May perform any of the following depending on assigned area:
- Performs general grounds maintenance including, but not limited to: mowing grass, trimming trees and shrubs, installing landscape materials, and removing weeds and debris.
- Edges around headstones, driveways, curbs, and sidewalks.
- Picks up trash and debris.
- Assists with clean-up operations after hurricanes and other inclement weather.
- Spreads ant bait around headstones.
- Reads water meter on well each day.
- Removes weathered flower arrangements from graves.
- Blows off driveways and headstones.
- Helps with repairs to the irrigation system.
- Marks graves and assists the public in locating graves of loved ones.
- Shows lots and columbariums to citizens who are interested in those purchases.
- Properly uses equipment and tools, follows safety practices (including personal protective equipment when required), and is continuously aware of occupational hazards during the performance of assigned tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: No experience required.
- License: Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Certifications: Obtain FEMA IS100 and IS700 Certifications within six (6) months from date of employment.
In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field.
Physical Demands
- Most of the work is manual, ranging from continual light work to occasionally heavy work.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
- Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
Work Environment
- Works outside in sometimes adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for extended periods of time.
- Depending on assigned area, may be exposed to construction, water/wastewater, and other site hazards including, but not limited to, bright/dim lights, dust/pollen, fumes/noxious odors, toxic/caustic chemicals, disease/pathogens, and moving vehicles.
