This is a full-time role at Tesla, located in-person. Tesla builds electric vehicles, energy storage products, and is now developing humanoid robots like Optimus. This role is crucial for securing the specialized capital expenditure (CapEx) supply chain for high-pressure die casting (HPDC) tooling that directly supports the Optimus humanoid robot program and Tesla’s internal HPDC manufacturing efforts. The manager will ensure timely, budget-compliant, and quality delivery of critical casting tooling, driving the production capabilities for a groundbreaking new product.

The TL;DR

• Mission: This person owns leading global sourcing and supplier execution for casting tooling for Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot program and internal HPDC manufacturing, ensuring alignment on cost, quality, and schedule.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Sourcing Strategy: Lead end-to-end sourcing of precision HPDC dies and related casting production tooling, executing global sourcing strategies including supplier identification, benchmarking, and capacity planning.
• Commercial Negotiation: Drive high-stakes commercial negotiations covering pricing, contracts, scope, and change management to achieve optimal total cost and terms across the supply base.
• CapEx Project Ownership: Own CapEx project execution, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and proactive risk mitigation for tooling projects.
• Supplier Performance Management: Manage and elevate supplier performance across critical metrics including quality, delivery, cost, and innovation.
• Cost Analysis & Validation: Validate supplier tooling quotes for technical scope, completeness, and commercial assumptions, while running should-cost analysis and tooling cost estimation to benchmark proposals and support award decisions.

• Background: Manager level with a degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience with exceptional ability, focused on Capital Expenditure Supply Chain for High-Pressure Die Casting Tooling.
• Experience: 5+ years of technical experience specifically in HPDC dies and casting tooling (die design/build, tooling supplier technical roles, or manufacturing engineering with primary focus on HPDC die prove-out, validation, and supplier technical issues). Additionally, 5+ years of experience in supplier management for production tooling within a high-complexity, high-volume manufacturing environment (HPDC/die casting tooling preferred).
• Skills: Ability to validate supplier quotes and perform tooling cost estimation and should-cost/cost breakdown analysis on die and tooling proposals; proficiency in working from tooling drawings, steel layouts, and validation plans with engineering and suppliers; proven track record leading commercial negotiations; and experience with quality and launch discipline (APQP/PPAP or equivalent) and managing supplier performance during New Product Introduction (NPI) and ramp phases.
