Job Description

The role is for a Business Management & Finance PDP Internship – Summer 2026: FP&A Track at BASF.

This is a 10 to 12-week internship designed to immerse participants in BASF’s Finance and Controlling teams. It offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience on impactful projects that support business objectives, working closely with seasoned professionals. The internship aims to equip interns with essential skills in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Accounting, Controlling, and Internal Audit, while also providing leadership opportunities and strategic insights for a successful career in Finance and Accounting.

Applicants must be mobile-minded and open to relocation, as placements may be at any BASF site across the country, enhancing exposure to diverse business environments and global operations.

In the FP&A track, interns will experience a dynamic environment with diverse challenges, cross-functional collaboration, and real-time problem-solving opportunities.

Potential exposure and responsibilities typically include:
Financial Planning and Analysis: Analyzing financial data to identify trends, supporting decision-making through scenario analysis and profitability assessments, forecasting, budgeting, and month-end accounting.
Financial Reporting: Preparing and presenting financial reports and dashboards to stakeholders, providing insights into financial performance and strategic recommendations.
Business Partnering: Collaborating with various departments (e.g., marketing, operations, sales) and global stakeholders to offer financial insights and support strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Process Improvement: Evaluating and enhancing existing financial workflows by identifying inefficiencies, implementing best practices for reporting and forecasting, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations and increase accuracy.
Digitalization & Artificial Intelligence: Exploring and evaluating how Digitalization and AI can enhance reporting, business and financial analysis, and ultimately business performance.

Interns may gain exposure to Business Unit Controlling, Site Controlling, Internal Audit, and Corporate Accounting.

Professional Development & Mentorship:
• Interns will gain exposure to applications and digital tools like PowerBI, CoPilot, and SAP.
• At the end of the internship, participants will present their summer project to fellow interns, BASF employees, and senior leaders.
• Each participant is assigned a peer mentor who is a full-time program participant, guiding them and helping develop networking abilities at senior levels.

Networking Opportunities:
• Participation in Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at their site.
• A week-long orientation at BASF headquarters in New Jersey, offering engagement with alumni and executive leadership.
• Collaboration with full-time Professional Development Program (P/LDP) participants to organize and participate in a community service volunteer day.

Qualifications & What BASF is Looking For:
Education: Student majoring in Accounting or Finance.
Graduation Date: Between May 2027 and July 2029.
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
Mobility: Willingness to relocate anywhere in the country during and after the program, as all assignments are in-person or hybrid.
Experience & Skills:
• Demonstrated previous leadership experience.
• Strong academic achievement.
• Active participation in extracurricular activities and on-campus organizations.
• Previous internship/co-op experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with tools such as PowerBI, SAP, and advanced Excel proficiency is a plus.
• A strong interest in the manufacturing or chemical industry is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as CoPilot is a plus.
• Project management experience is also beneficial.

Future Opportunities:
Interns will be assessed for a potential returning internship offer or a full-time position in BASF’s 2-year rotational program. Mobility is crucial for future roles, with potential full-time locations including New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana.

Compensation:
The competitive pay range for this role is $1,387 – $1,993 semi-monthly. Actual pay and any sign-on bonuses will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
