Budget Associate | Maricopa County

The Tone:
This is a part-time to full-time role at Maricopa County, located in Phoenix, AZ, requiring at least 30 hours per week with the potential for up to 40 hours. This role is crucial for providing timely and accurate information, expertise, reports, and analysis to the Board, County leadership, and other stakeholders, enabling them to make fiscally responsible decisions and ensure the responsible stewardship of public resources.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Budget Preparation: Assist in preparing, analyzing, and maintaining the County’s annual budget documentation.
• Expenditure Oversight: Review departmental expenditures to ensure compliance with established budgetary and policy guidelines.
• Fiscal Forecasting: Support departments in developing long-range forecasts of revenues, expenditures, and service demands.
• Policy Evaluation: Evaluate proposed legislative and policy changes to assess their potential budgetary impacts.
• Financial Analysis: Assist with standard administrative and systems studies, financial analyses, and basic statistical and research studies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: No specific years required; relevant budget and finance experience is valued.
• Skills: Detail-orientation, fiscal analysis and planning, budget strategy and reporting, proactive problem-solving, working with numbers.
• Bonus: Prior budget and finance experience.
