Kashrus Bookkeeper | JPRO of the Greater Palm Beaches

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role with the Orthodox Union, located in Lower Manhattan, New York, NY. The Orthodox Union is the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the United States, providing extensive support for synagogues, youth programs, advocacy, and services for individuals with disabilities, while also operating a globally recognized kosher certification service. This position is vital for ensuring accurate and timely financial processing related to the Kashrus division, directly contributing to the organization’s essential operational functions and mission. What You’ll Actually Do
• Expense Processing: Review and process expense reports from field representatives for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational policies.
• Payment Calculation: Calculate reimbursement amounts, inspection payments, and applicable billing rates according to established guidelines.
• Invoice Generation: Generate customer invoices for billable inspections and services provided by the Kashrus division.
• Discrepancy Resolution: Communicate with field representatives to resolve discrepancies, obtain missing documentation, and answer expense-related questions.
• Financial Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation while assisting with collections activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High school diploma or equivalent, with knowledge of Hebrew and familiarity with Jewish kosher practices.
• Experience: Strong mathematical aptitude and comfort working with financial data and calculations.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Office, and PDF management. Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Previous bookkeeping, accounting, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or finance experience. Experience processing expense reimbursements or working with financial software or ERP systems. Experience working with high-volume transactional processing.
