Assurance Intern – Winter 2028 (Raleigh) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at BDO USA, located in Raleigh, NC, offering a unique hands-on perspective within the Assurance practice. BDO is a leading professional services firm that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally, helping them navigate complexity and move forward with clarity. As an energetic self-starter, you will utilize your educational background and organizational skills to assist in problem-solving and fact-finding for BDO’s diverse client base. This role is crucial for supporting the firm’s purpose: to be the people clients count on to grow with confidence and achieve what matters most, while providing interns with direction, coaching, and opportunities to forge critical career relationships.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Training and Principles: Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Audit Process Assistance: Become familiar with BDO specific audit methodology and assist with various stages of the audit process, including providing support functions to the audit staff during engagements.
• Client Communications: Communicate with the clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues, contributing to the fact-finding process.
• Documentation and Templates: Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates, ensuring accuracy and adherence to firm standards.
• Research and Presentation: Complete one assigned accounting or audit related research project and present findings to a panel of Assurance professionals, contributing ideas and opinions to the audit teams.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting; this is an Entry-Level role.
• Experience: No specific years required; candidates with leadership experience are preferred.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Bonus: Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting, actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to follow instructions as directed, ability to work effectively in a team setting, and a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
