The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site Bookkeeper role located in Chicago, IL. Realty & Mortgage Co., established in 1906, is a comprehensive real estate company that manages approximately 6,000 apartment units, 2,000 condominium/cooperative units, and 250,000 square feet of commercial space across the Chicago metropolitan area. This role is vital for ensuring accurate financial transaction recording, timely reporting, and compliance for the company’s diverse property portfolio. The Bookkeeper will support the accounting and property management teams by maintaining financial integrity and providing essential data for operational oversight.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Transactions: Accurately record and maintain financial transactions for multiple properties.
• Ledger Management: Post journal entries and reconcile bank and account statements, updating ledgers as needed.
• Reporting Support: Prepare and review financial reports for internal use.
• Statement Assistance: Assist in the production of monthly and annual financial statements.
• A/P & A/R: Support accounts payable and receivable activities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, combined with foundational knowledge of finance and accounting principles, including creating and posting journal entries.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong bookkeeping skills, including recording daily transactions, maintaining ledgers, and supporting month-end close activities. Proficiency with accounting software and related financial systems used for property and real estate management.
• Skills: Financial statement preparation, review, and interpretation; strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously.
• Bonus: Prior experience in real estate or property management accounting; high level of numerical accuracy; effective communication skills; familiarity with spreadsheets and office productivity tools; ability to work collaboratively in an on-site team environment.
