Job Description

This position is for an intern within the Bioinformatics Pipeline team at Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT).

Role Location:
The position is fully remote, with the option to work on-site at one of IDT’s offices located in Boulder, CO; Coralville, IA; or Redwood City, CA. Candidates must be close to these mentioned sites to be considered for the role. The primary team base is Boulder, CO.

Team and Role Overview:
The Gene Reading Solutions Pipeline team is part of a software group responsible for creating and maintaining tools that accelerate the development and analysis of IDT’s distributed oncology assays. This team is crucial for the core bioinformatics pipelines that customers use for data analysis. As an intern, you will contribute to expanding the capabilities of IDT’s software platform, thereby enabling precision medicine in laboratories, hospital systems, and research centers globally.

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:
In this role, the intern will have the opportunity to:
• Help build essential tools and maintain an outstanding user experience for cancer researchers and clinicians.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, bioinformaticians, and research scientists to implement new features.
• Write structured, tested, readable, and maintainable code.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge.
• Maintain and develop code and participate in team ceremonies related to the engineering of bioinformatics pipeline software products.
• May involve interactions with Assay Development, Web Applications, and/or Product Management teams.

• Python
• Nextflow

• Docker
• Kubernetes

Essential Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:
• Actively pursuing (or have already received) a degree in computer science, engineering, life sciences (biology, genomics, bioinformatics, etc.), or a related field.
• First-year MS students in Bioinformatics or Software Engineering are welcome to apply.
• 2+ years of experience (which can include school coursework) with Python, C++, Java, or another general-purpose language.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
• Regular and consistent access to reliable internet and a designated remote working location.
OPTIONAL: May come on-site to an IDT office if within commuting distance.

Desired Skills and Experience (Pluses):
Previous experience in the following areas would be a significant plus:
• Version control (Git/GitHub)
• Docker
• Life sciences (biology, genomics, bioinformatics)
• Workflow management tools like Nextflow, Snakemake, or Airflow

Work Arrangement and Compensation:
This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement. IDT supports designing a sustainable workforce and recognizes the benefits of flexible, remote working for eligible roles. Additional information about this arrangement will be provided by the interview team.
The hourly compensation range for this role is $25 – $30, depending on skills and experience. This range reflects the good-faith belief of possible compensation at the time of posting and may be modified in the future.
