Associate, Finance and Capital Markets | Invenergy

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Invenergy, located in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you will be integral to supporting the complex financial processes, transaction closings, and compliance activities essential for powering communities and contributing to the future of energy infrastructure.

• Team: Collaborative, working closely with internal teams including Thermal and Renewable Development, Asset Management, Legal, Accounting, Tax, and Treasury, as well as external stakeholders.
• Mission: Support the financial modeling, transaction execution, and compliance for Invenergy’s diverse portfolio of power generation and energy projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project and Portfolio Management: Manage project and portfolio-level financings for operating projects, which includes cultivating and maintaining lender relationships and overseeing all required reporting activities.
• Agreement Interpretation and Communication: Accurately interpret complex terms found within operating agreements, various financing agreements, and power hedge agreements, subsequently communicating key findings and implications to management.
• Financial Model Development and Analysis: Develop and diligently manage intricate financial models designed to analyze the economic merits and identify potential risks associated with wind, solar, energy storage, and natural gas projects.
• Financing Structure Contribution: Actively contribute to the development of sophisticated project financing structures, systematically analyzing and evaluating alternative approaches to optimize financial outcomes.
• Transaction Support and Due Diligence: Provide comprehensive assistance in due diligence processes for various financial transactions, including project finance, corporate finance, and merger & acquisition deals. Additionally, support transaction closings for construction financings, term conversions, and tax equity funding.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal tax, accounting, and treasury teams regarding disbursements, tax returns, valuations, and the integrity of project models.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in finance or banking.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to develop complex financing models in Excel; familiarity with project or corporate finance transactions and documentation; exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with project or corporate finance equity transactions in the power generation or energy/utilities sector.
