Job Title: Assistant Underwriting Intern
Program Summary:
Burns & Wilcox invites passionate individuals eager to launch a career in the dynamic specialty insurance industry to join our 12-week summer internship program. This immersive program is designed to cultivate essential business acumen, communication, and leadership skills through hands-on, real-world experience. As a paid internship, it offers invaluable learning opportunities, including direct interaction and networking with executive leadership and a cohort of fellow interns across various departments. Interns will be expected to commit 40 hours per week, with four days spent in an office setting and one day working remotely. The Assistant Underwriting Intern will gain critical experience within one of our specialized insurance underwriting teams, which may include commercial, personal, environmental, or professional lines.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Underwriting Intern, you will actively contribute to our teams by:
• Engaging in underwriting and cross-selling activities across the department’s renewal portfolio and new business submissions.
• Participating in and supporting agent marketing calls.
• Assisting with and learning about insurance policy renewals processes.
• Maintaining and updating new business and renewal records using Microsoft Excel.
• Developing an understanding of how to determine the most suitable program or market for agency clients’ needs.
• Communicating critical information such as loss notices and policy changes.
• Collaborating with senior leaders on special projects and attending client meetings to gain comprehensive industry insight.
Qualifications:
We are looking for motivated candidates who meet the following criteria:
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited university.
• Actively pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, or another relevant field.
• Expected graduation date in December 2026 or May 2027.
• Previous internship experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
