Assistant Staff Accountant | Barnes & Noble, Inc.

This role is essential in supporting the company’s financial operations by assisting with critical month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting audit requirements for a growing and evolving retail partner.

• Mission: Assist in month-end and year-end close processes by preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis to ensure accurate financial data and support internal and external audit activities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconciliations: Prepare monthly account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
• Analysis: Conduct monthly variance analysis to identify and explain financial discrepancies.
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post monthly journal entries as part of the close process.
• Invoice Processing: Prepare monthly Real Estate Tax invoices for direct payment to municipalities and prepare invoice uploads for the general payment process.
• Audit Support: Assist in gathering supporting documents for all external, internal, and financial audits.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level accounting professional with foundational understanding of financial principles. An Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: One year of work experience in the accounting field, specifically including analysis experience.
• Skills: Proficient Excel skills, extremely detailed orientation, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and proactively.
