Job Summary
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Lake Forest Recreation Department Squash Pro, the Assistant Squash Coach plays a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional and successful athletic experience for all participants. This position is central to the development and implementation of effective coaching strategies, comprehensive lesson plans, and initiatives designed to achieve specific program goals and foster significant player development within the squash program.
Key Responsibilities
- Player Instruction and Development:
Provide personalized and group instruction, offering detailed feedback to players. Analyze individual performance to help them refine proper technique, significantly improve their physical fitness relevant to squash, and deepen their strategic understanding of the game. - Technique and Tactical Coaching:
Lead engaging sessions to teach both fundamental and advanced squash techniques. This includes critical aspects such as precise shot selection, efficient footwork, optimal court positioning, and sophisticated game tactics. Instruction will be delivered effectively in both individual coaching sessions and dynamic group settings. - Cultivating a Positive Team Environment:
Actively foster a supportive and positive team culture that strongly encourages teamwork, exemplary sportsmanship, and unwavering dedication among all players. Offer essential emotional support, encouragement, and motivation to empower players to overcome challenges, build resilience, and ultimately reach their full potential both on and off the court. - Continuous Professional Development:
Maintain an active commitment to staying current with the latest developments in the sport of squash. This includes exploring cutting-edge coaching techniques, evolving training methodologies, and any rule changes. This ongoing professional growth will be achieved through dedicated participation in professional development opportunities such as clinics, workshops, conferences, and relevant certifications. - Safety and Compliance Assurance:
Prioritize and ensure the utmost safety of all players during every practice session and match. This involves strictly enforcing proper safety protocols, ensuring the correct and safe use of all equipment, and being thoroughly familiar with all relevant rules and regulations governing squash competitions to guarantee the team’s full compliance. - Effective Communication:
Establish and maintain open, clear, and effective communication channels with the Squash Pro, players, and potentially parents/guardians as needed. Provide regular and comprehensive updates on player progress, upcoming team activities, and any relevant issues or concerns that may arise, ensuring all stakeholders are well-informed. - Role Modeling:
Serve as an exemplary positive role model for all players. Consistently demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, and an undeniable passion for the sport of squash, inspiring players to emulate these qualities. - Program Enhancement:
Proactively identify specific areas for improvement within the Squash program section. Take initiative to develop and propose innovative strategies and actionable plans to enhance the overall quality, effectiveness, and positive impact of the program on its participants.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Professional Development Commitment: A proven commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the sport of squash, including a willingness to attend clinics, workshops, and conferences to stay abreast of coaching techniques, training methodologies, and rule changes.
- Transportation: Coaches are required to possess the ability and means to reliably find transportation to and from all scheduled lessons, practices, matches, and/or other program functions as required by the Lake Forest Recreation Department.
