Credit Analyst – Underwriting & Portfolio Management – Sponsor, Growth & Middle-Market | Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, working from an MUFG office or client site four days a week with one remote day. • Team: Portfolio Management Group (PMG) within the Sponsor, Growth & Middle Market (SGMM) platform, supporting specific Food & Beverage, Consumer & Retail, Environmental Services, and Diversified Industrials verticals.
• Mission: This person supports underwriting and portfolio management activities to ensure sound credit decisions and effective risk management for sponsor-backed and corporate borrowers.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Portfolio Monitoring: Track borrower operating performance, liquidity, leverage, and cash flow generation across covered verticals to identify upgrades, downgrades, and emerging risks.
• Underwriting & Modeling: Build and maintain financial models, including base and downside cases, to support the evaluation and underwriting of various lending transactions.
• Credit Analysis: Draft sections of credit approval memoranda, addressing client requests, business risk, industry dynamics, and transaction structure.
• Risk Assessment: Assist in preparing internal and regulatory risk rating recommendations and help identify structural risks, covenant considerations, and potential mitigants.
• Coordination & Reporting: Coordinate portfolio account information across internal teams, support legal documentation review, and prepare management presentations and ad hoc analyses.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Foundational understanding of corporate finance, accounting, financial statements, cash flow analysis, and credit risk fundamentals.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in commercial banking, corporate banking, leveraged finance, sponsor finance, private credit, credit risk management, investment banking, or related financial services roles.
• Skills: Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail; experience with three-statement financial modeling, valuation, and credit analysis; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: CFA or MBA is a plus; completion of a formal credit training program is preferred.
