Alternative Asset Analyst | Brown Advisory

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Brown Advisory, located in Baltimore, MD. This role is crucial in supporting all operational and reporting aspects of alternative assets, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of reporting, transactions, and valuations related to private equity, hedge fund, and direct investment deals.

• Mission: This person ensures accurate and timely reporting, transactions, and valuations for private equity, hedge fund, and direct investment deals throughout their full investment lifecycle.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Valuation Management: Independently review, research, assess, and update valuations for alternative assets, escalating fair value pricing matters where valuations might be incorrect.
• Reporting & Analytics: Generate monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reports for client and institutional relationships, and produce custom business-segment and firm analytics for managerial reporting.
• Issue Resolution: Engage custodians, funds, and internal teams to resolve valuation issues, breaks, and delays, providing factual support and documentation to resolve discrepancies.
• Process Optimization: Manage a queue of ticket requests within the internal task management system, resolve tickets independently, and contribute to business process efficiency initiatives.
• Investment Lifecycle Support: Partner with investment teams to create new alternative assets, validate statements, manage transfers and execution of subscription/redemption activities, and support client teams onboarding complex holdings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for finance, accounting, or economics concentration.
• Experience: 1-3 years of experience. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel, specifically macros and v-lookup functionality.
• Skills: Strong analytical, evaluative, critical thinking, attention to detail, decision-making, organization, and communication skills (written and verbal). Must have strong time-management, problem-resolution, and research skills, along with a client-first mentality and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Bonus: Solid proficiency and understanding of private equity and hedge fund securities and real assets. General knowledge of market mechanics. Experience with eFront, Advent, Axys/APX, or similar accounting products is preferred.
