Actuarial Internship Opportunity

Work Schedule
- Summer Term: Full-time (40 hours) from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
- Spring and Fall Terms: Part-time (minimum 16 hours).

Job Description
The Actuarial Intern is expected to successfully complete projects that assist AXIS in performing Actuarial functions. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Data manipulation.
- Rater support.
- Rate filings.
- Reporting.
- Working closely with line actuaries and assisting with profitability analysis of underwriting and claim trends, as well as analysis of new and expanded business opportunities.
- Providing assistance in developing and maintaining the rating plans used by various business units.
- Assisting with the monthly price monitoring process.
- Assisting with supplementary analysis and special projects.
- Gaining general insurance or reinsurance knowledge.
This internship provides an opportunity to experience actuarial work and see what a career at AXIS is like first-hand. Interns receive on-the-job training and the opportunity to work on a variety of projects.
Required Education/Training & Experience
- Excellent PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft product suite, particularly Excel (experience with Visual Basic is a plus).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as strong written and verbal communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills, as well as an ability to work on a team. Individual will have frequent interaction with people on a variety of levels in all major departments of the company (Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Finance etc.).
- Knowledge of Access, SQL, and/or experience with databases is a plus.
- Successful completion of Actuarial exams is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Progress towards an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Math, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business, Risk Management or a similar field which demonstrates an affinity and talent for quantitative analysis.
- Current student in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher with at least one year remaining towards completion of his or her degree.
- Candidate should be local in the New York/ New Jersey area for the NY office positions.
Internship Duration
This is a one-year internship starting in June 2026 to May 2027. To be considered, candidates must be able to work in our midtown Manhattan office part-time (minimum 16 hours) during spring and fall terms and full-time (40 hours) during summer from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: We currently expect to offer a base salary of $21.00 per hour. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
