Accounting Manager / Sr. Accountant | South Bay Medical Device Company
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at a South Bay Medical Device Company, located remotely with a preference for local candidates in California. The company develops medical devices. This position is critical for owning the monthly close process and contributing hands-on within a lean finance team, directly supporting the CFO. The ideal candidate will be a key, independent contributor capable of handling diverse financial responsibilities.

• Mission: Own the monthly close process and serve as a key hands-on contributor, flexing between technical accounting, tax, and HR coordination.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monthly Close: Own and manage the full monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
• Accounts Payable: Manage end-to-end Accounts Payable, covering invoice processing, vendor payments, coding, and vendor relationship management.
• Tax Compliance: Prepare and file property tax and sales/use tax returns, ensuring compliance across applicable jurisdictions.
• External Audit: Serve as the primary point of contact for external audit support, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
• HR & PEO Support: Partner with the outside PEO on light HR administration, such as onboarding/offboarding coordination and benefits support.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with progressive accounting experience at the manager or senior accountant level.
• Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, prior experience owning a full monthly close cycle, hands-on experience with property and sales/use tax compliance and filings, and experience supporting external financial audits.
• Skills: Strong proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar), Excel, Brex, and Bill.com; excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently; strong communication skills.
• Bonus: CPA is a plus; familiarity with PEO relationships and light HR/payroll coordination is a strong plus.
