Accounting Intern (Spring 2028) | SVA | A Professional Services Company

The Tone:
This is a paid internship at SVA, located in Brookfield, WI. SVA is an independent and growing professional services firm, certified as a Great Place to Work®, offering a collaborative environment. This role provides an excellent introduction to the accounting and business worlds, offering hands-on experience in tax, audit/assurance, and management advisory services during the busy season. Interns are integral team members, contributing to a wide range of duties similar to an entry-level staff accountant, with opportunities for mentorship and networking, and a path to potential full-time employment.

The TL;DR

• Team: Part of the Accounting team, reporting to a People Leader and supported by a Buddy.
• Mission: Provide current accounting students with hands-on experience in a CPA firm during the busy season, performing duties similar to an entry-level staff accountant.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Work: Prepare a variety of tax returns for individuals, trusts, and business entities, including supporting workpapers, extensions, and Forms 1099 information returns.
• Audit and Assurance Work: Complete assigned audits, reviews, and compilations, including preparing simple financial statements, analytic workpapers, and posting journal entries to the working trial balance.
• Advisory Work: Prepare accounting adjustments and financial reports, gaining experience with various accounting software, and assisting in the preparation of tax returns and projections.
• Schedule Management: Develop and maintain depreciation and amortization schedules, ensuring accuracy for both tax and audit purposes.
• Project Support: Assist with special accounting projects, including the creation of complex Excel spreadsheets for use in valuations and data analytics.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of college coursework completed in Accounting or a related field.
• Skills: Data analysis, financial reporting, tax return preparation, audit and assurance procedures, proficiency in general accounting activities and responsibilities.
