The Tone:
This is an internship at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services, located in San Bernardino, CA, specifically at California State University – San Bernardino. Chartwells manages dining services for colleges and universities, enhancing campus life through food experiences. This role provides an opportunity for an undergraduate student to gain practical experience within the finance team, applying classroom knowledge to real-world accounting and operational challenges. The intern’s contributions are crucial in supporting the daily financial and administrative functions of the campus dining operations.

• Mission: To support the Chartwells Management Finance team by applying accounting skills across field accounting, operations, budget, and payroll functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Accounting: Review contracts for database entry, audit charitable contributions and receipts, and validate payroll accruals.
• Financial Closing: Assist with monthly close processes and review activity on closed cost centers.
• Operational Support: Maintain maintenance requests from field operations and conduct various paperwork audits.
• Financial Analysis: Support budget review and analysis, and assist with flash report review and analysis.
• Payroll Processing: Process payroll work orders, maintain document retention through filing and scanning, and compile related statistical records.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate student with a general interest and knowledge in accounting or a related field.
• Experience: Intermediate level proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal, analytical, listening, and verbal communication abilities. Excellent time management and organizational skills, coupled with a strong desire for continuous learning and process improvements.
