Winter Assurance Internship 2027 | PBMares, LLP

The Tone:
This is a Winter Assurance Internship for 2027 at PBMares, LLP, a distinguished top-100 accounting firm. With over 300 professionals across 12 offices in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, PBMares delivers high-quality assurance services by providing clients with accurate, timely, and insightful financial information across diverse industries. This internship is designed to build foundational technical and analytical capabilities, including the use of approved AI-enabled audit tools, while developing professional judgment and an understanding of risk, internal controls, and financial reporting. The role offers meaningful exposure to public accounting, fostering the intern’s growth toward becoming a future audit professional and a strategic contributor to client service, all within a culture that emphasizes integrity, creativity, and teamwork.

The TL;DR

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Service: Contribute to a positive client experience through professionalism and clear communication, supporting engagement teams by preparing information requests and ensuring timely responses.
• Audit Execution: Perform analytical procedures and comprehensive testing of fundamental financial statement areas such as cash, fixed assets, and accounts payable, using firm-approved methodologies.
• Internal Controls: Support the assessment of client internal controls by documenting process workflows and executing specific control testing tasks under direct supervision.
• Financial Reporting Assistance: Apply foundational accounting principles, including relevant FASB and AICPA guidance, to assist with drafting basic financial statements and related deliverables.
• Technology Utilization: Use audit software, data analytics tools, and approved AI-assisted applications in accordance with firm policies, ensuring human review of all outputs.
• Documentation & Collaboration: Clearly document procedures performed using Microsoft Office and other firm-standard applications, building effective working relationships with engagement teams through collaboration and openness to feedback.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an accounting degree, positioned as a rising junior or senior, and making progress toward eligibility for CPA exam completion and licensure.
• Experience: This is an entry-level internship providing foundational exposure to public accounting practices, engagement teams, and diverse client service.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel; strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills for engaging with colleagues and clients; and reliable transportation to travel to client sites as needed.
• Bonus: A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
