Intern/Co-op – Accounting (Fall 2027) | Marathon Petroleum Corporation
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, available for spring, summer, and fall semesters, located primarily in Findlay, Ohio, with additional opportunities in San Antonio, Texas, and Denver, Colorado. • Mission: Assist the Controller’s Organization with diverse accounting and financial analysis tasks to gain practical experience in the petroleum industry and develop foundational professional skills, in line with the company’s commitment to developing future accountants.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Processing: Analyze and process various business documents to support accounting operations.
• Financial Reporting: Analyze accounting and financial data to accurately prepare proper financial statement journal entries.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare comprehensive general ledger account reconcilements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Compliance Auditing: Conduct testing of SOX and Non-SOX controls as part of internal auditing processes.
• Budgetary Support: Provide assistance in the preparation of budgets for different departments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Concurrent enrollment in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) seeking program is required for the duration of the internship experience. A major in Accounting is preferred, though candidates pursuing other business majors may also be considered for this role. Furthermore, candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis, without requiring employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong academic performance is essential for this internship. Additionally, selected candidates must be able to provide reliable transportation to and from their designated place of work.
• Skills: This role requires strong analytical skills for effective accounting and financial data analysis. Proficiency in accurate documentation and reconciliation, along with effective communication skills for collaborating across various departments, are crucial.
• Bonus: Prior military experience will be considered a valuable asset for applicants.
