Intern/Co-op – Accounting (Fall 2027) | Marathon Petroleum Corporation

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, concurrent enrollment in a degree program required for the duration of the experience)
• Location: In-person Findlay, OH (All Terms); San Antonio, TX (All Terms); Denver, CO (All Terms); and various refinery locations (Summer Term)
• Pay: $21.63–$27.04 hourly
• Team: Controller’s Organization
• Mission: To support essential accounting and financial operations, contribute to compliance, and develop foundational skills within the petroleum industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Analysis: Analyze and process business documents, applying principles learned to the dynamics of the petroleum industry.
• Financial Data Management: Analyze accounting and financial data to prepare proper financial statement journal entries, contributing to accurate financial reporting.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare general ledger account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Compliance & Reporting: Prepare tax information and perform testing of SOX and Non-SOX controls in auditing to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Budget Support & Collaboration: Assist in preparing budgets and actively interface with a variety of departments outside the Controller’s Organization, developing collaborative relationships.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Concurrent enrollment in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) seeking program for the duration of the experience. An Accounting major is required; however, other business majors may be considered depending on the specific accounting area.
• Experience: Strong academic performance is essential. Candidates must possess availability to work 40 hours per week during the internship term.
• Skills: Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. The ability to provide reliable transportation to and from the place of work is also required.
• Bonus: Military experience is considered a plus for applicants.
