Accounting Clerk | Community College of Allegheny County

• Mission: To accurately process and reconcile financial and student account transactions across various accounting functions to support college operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Service: Provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers, addressing inquiries and maintaining necessary contacts to resolve discrepancies.
• Financial Document Processing: Prepare and process various electronic and paper forms, reports, records, invoices, and correspondence, including journal entries, and actively receive and respond to related mail and phone calls.
• Account Reconciliation and Data Management: Assist with reconciling accounts, accurately posting, balancing, and coding financial data, processing transactions, and preparing related records, logs, and reports.
• Operational Support: Under direct supervision, perform general clerical accounting duties supporting areas such as accounts payable (verifying invoices for payment), payroll (processing forms), financial aid (processing student loans and assisting with inquiries), bursar/student accounts (processing cash receipts, analyzing accounts, and preparing third-party billings), and workforce development (managing non-credit class registrations).
• Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensure all duties are performed in strict accordance with applicable laws, collective bargaining agreements, board policies, and administrative regulations and directives.
• Departmental Assistance: Perform other clerical duties as required to meet the specific and unique needs of the department.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: Six months of work-related experience in an office environment.
• Skills: Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Analytical Acumen: Ability to accurately check manual calculations and reconcile financial data. Interpersonal & Organizational Skills: Strong organizational, customer service, communication, interpersonal, and clerical skills. Work Ethic: Detail-oriented with proven ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, function effectively as a team player, and maintain regular and timely attendance. Mobility: Ability to travel to perform work duties at any campus or center location within the CCAC system.
