Accounting Associate | Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, located in Asheville, NC. This Accounting Associate role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the finance department’s daily operations, directly contributing to the organization’s mission and stability. The successful candidate will help ensure the financial health that allows Habitat to continue its vital work.

• Team: Reports to Finance Director and Accounting Specialist
• Mission: This person supports the finance team in daily accounting, budgeting, and reporting to ensure accurate financial transactions and recordkeeping.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), computerized accounting systems, established database systems, QuickBooks (a plus)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Financial Operations: Assist the Finance team in all aspects of daily accounting, budgeting, tax reporting, and other required areas.
• Process Financial Transactions: Enter and verify data in established database systems, and post cash receipts and other data to various ledgers, registers, and journals.
• Reconcile Accounts: Assist with monthly bank reconciliations and support the Accounting Specialist in recording and reconciling monthly mortgage payments.
• Maintain Financial Records: Help with the maintenance of a variety of financial records and files, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit card receipts/statements, and mortgages receivable.
• Aid Compliance & Reporting: Assist in the annual budget preparation, the annual certified audit, and the preparation of annual forms 990 and 990T.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Basic accounting experience or education required.
• Experience: Strong experience with computerized accounting systems and excellent data entry skills.
• Skills: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; strong organizational skills; and exhibits accuracy and attention to detail.
• Bonus: Experience with QuickBooks.
