Staff Accountant | Velocity Flex

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Velocity Flex. This position is central to the financial operations, focusing on the accurate processing of transactions, meticulous general ledger management, and supporting critical internal and external reporting. The Staff Accountant will directly contribute to the company’s compliance with SEC and SBA requirements, ensuring financial integrity and supporting strategic decision-making. This role supports the wider team by delivering reliable financial data and insights for both internal management and external investor presentations.

• Mission: Systematically process all accounts payable, reconcile client transactions, perform comprehensive general ledger activities including variance analysis and accruals, and ensure the accuracy of financial records for both internal management and external regulatory reporting.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable: Efficiently process and accurately code accounts payable invoices, ensuring timely vendor payments and proper expense allocation.
• General Ledger: Perform comprehensive general ledger activities, including detailed reconciliations, in-depth variance analysis, and the preparation of quarterly expense accruals.
• Reporting & Close: Actively assist with monthly and quarterly financial close processes, and support critical SEC reporting (Forms 10-K and 10-Q) as well as SBA reporting requirements.
• Financial Tracking: Maintain precise amortization schedules for all prepaid and capitalized costs, and meticulously complete related balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
• Portfolio Oversight: Systematically track receivables, manage work-in-process, monitor deposit activity for portfolio companies, and update interest schedules while preparing weekly balance sheet recaps.
• Management & Audit Support: Prepare internal management reports, provide assistance with financial analysis, help develop investor/analyst presentation materials, and support audit requests and Form 1099 preparation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an early-career role, requiring a Bachelor’s degree with a strong preference for Accounting to ensure a foundational understanding of financial principles.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential for this role, as it will be used for various financial tracking, analysis, and reporting tasks.
• Skills: Candidates must exhibit a strong work ethic, capable of consistently delivering accurate financial work even under tight deadlines. Critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities are crucial for navigating complex financial data. Additionally, excellent organizational skills are required to manage multiple accounting tasks and processes effectively.
• Bonus: Further educational attainment, specifically a Master’s degree or an MBA, is considered a significant advantage for this position.
