Associate Accountant (Intern to FT Conversion) | Marathon Petroleum Corporation

This is a full-time regular Associate Accountant position at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, structured for conversion from an internship, located in Garyville, Louisiana. • Team: Reports to an Operations or Corporate Accounting Supervisor.
• Mission: Analyze and process financial and operational data, prepare financial statements, reconcile accounts, and conduct variance analysis to support management decisions and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Tech Stack: Excel, SAP, Right Angle, Power Plan, Blackline

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Processing: Identify, analyze, verify, interpret, and accurately process financial and operating transactions and related data in a timely manner.
• Financial Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records, accounts, and ledgers pertaining to various company activities, and prepare associated schedules, statements, and reports to analyze activity results.
• Process Improvement: Actively review existing job tasks and propose recommendations for process improvements and/or automation opportunities aimed at enhancing accounting controls and overall efficiency.
• Stakeholder Communication: Utilize effective communication skills to receive and distribute critical information to other accounting and operational department personnel, various levels of management, and external entities such as governmental agencies.
• Compliance and Analysis: May study contracts and agreements to determine conformance and settlement requirements, then analyze and interpret accounting and financial data to ensure such conformance and settlement.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• Experience: 0-3 years of Accounting related experience.
• Skills: Motivated individual with strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; proficient in Excel, including creating/modifying spreadsheets, data cleansing, pivot tables & formulas; ability to meet deadlines and work in a team setting.
• Bonus: Prior Accounting college internship preferred; experience with SAP is a plus.
