Accountant I – II | San Antonio River Authority
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at San Antonio River Authority, located in the San Antonio, Texas Metropolitan Area. The San Antonio River Authority is a public sector organization responsible for the management of the San Antonio River Basin. This accounting position is critical for supporting the organization’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with established accounting principles and standards, and contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare or assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, schedules, and disclosures for internal and external reporting purposes.
• Transaction Management: Independently manage or assist with assigned accounting processes, including accounts receivable, billing, collections, and payroll accounting.
• Record Keeping & Reconciliation: Prepare and review journal entries with appropriate documentation, and perform monthly account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Closing Activities & Audits: Actively participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines, and support audit activities by compiling requested documentation.
• Asset Management: Support and maintain fixed asset tracking, inventory processes, and documentation of asset activity, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
The Must-Haves
• Background: An Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, with core domain knowledge in public sector accounting, budgeting, and reporting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
• Experience: A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience in public sector accounting, budgeting, and reporting for an Accountant I, or at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or economics for an Accountant II.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting principles, GASB standards, financial accounting systems and ERP software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, alongside effective oral and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
