Staff Accountant | CFS

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at CFS, located in the Bay Area, CA with a hybrid work schedule. CFS is an established nonprofit organization with headquarters in the East Bay and an office in the South Bay. This role is crucial for supporting the daily financial operations, month-end close, and audit preparations, directly contributing to the organization’s ability to make a positive impact within the Bay Area community. What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Financial Transactions: Review and approve all invoices, credit card, and out-of-pocket expenses, diligently ensuring proper coding and necessary approvals are present. This includes actively monitoring invoices to facilitate timely payments and to optimize available discounts, contributing to efficient cash flow management.
• Manage General Ledger Entries and Reconciliations: Prepare comprehensive monthly journal entries for credit card expenses, out-of-pocket expenses, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, allocations, and other accounts as assigned. This also involves meticulously completing related account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Oversee Compliance and Asset Management: Take responsibility for preparing accurate 1099 reports and filings in accordance with regulations. This also includes the diligent management of fixed assets and ensuring that all routine correspondence and questions related to accounting matters are handled accurately, courteously, and promptly.
• Support Audit and Tax Preparations: Provide substantial assistance with the preparation of various financial schedules required for the annual audit and tax returns, ensuring all documentation is organized, complete, and readily accessible for review.
• Drive Process Improvement: Actively participate both individually and as a member of cross-functional teams or staff committees to continuously identify opportunities and implement improvements in financial processes, contributing to greater efficiency and accuracy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a clear emphasis in accounting, or an acceptable substitute qualification. This foundation must be complemented by a strong, working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and current accounting rules and regulations.
• Experience: As an early career professional, you will demonstrate strong analytical capabilities and an ability to apply accounting principles effectively across daily operations, month-end closing procedures, and audit preparation tasks.
• Skills: Exhibit excellent computer proficiency, specifically expertise in the most current versions of Windows and the full Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This role also requires strong written and oral communication skills, alongside proven abilities in conflict resolution.
