Accountant 1 – Grants | State of Indiana

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Indiana’s Office of Judicial Administration, located in Indianapolis with a hybrid option. The Office of Judicial Administration is responsible for the efficient administration of all agencies operating under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court, encompassing over 200 personnel, fiscal management, technology, and services for trial courts. This Accountant 1 – Grants position is vital to the Indiana Supreme Court’s Finance Department, ensuring accurate financial management, compliance with state and federal grant regulations, and successful implementation of new grant management systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Reports: Assist in processing quarterly grant reports, reviewing general ledgers for accuracy and quality control, and analyzing/reporting on variances.
• Manage Expenditures: Coordinate grant-funded expenditures with Judges and Program Coordinators across the state, including invoice/payment processing, requisitions, purchase orders, and reimbursements.
• Reconcile & Track: Reconcile state grant reports and act as a point of contact for stakeholders during pre and post-award phases, tracking expenses and revenue against grant budgets.
• System Operations: Create and maintain projects in PeopleSoft accounting system and future Grant Management Systems, reconciling expenses and revenue while requesting payments from granting agencies.
• Resolve Issues: Research and resolve grant and project issues, reporting results to stakeholders, and escalating potential financial risks to appropriate management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career Accountant 1 level with a thorough understanding and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), specifically in the context of state and federal grants.
• Experience: Proficiency in using PeopleSoft Financials and adapting to new grant management systems, with experience in financial reporting, expenditure tracking, and account reconciliation.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail for accuracy in financial research and tracking, excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and confidential records, and effective written and verbal communication for internal and external stakeholders.
• Bonus: Dedication to seeking continuing education opportunities for grant-related topics and demonstrating adaptability to new technologies within Microsoft Suite and Supreme Court systems.
