Accountant 1 – Grants | Indiana Supreme Court

The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid role at the Indiana Supreme Court, located in Indianapolis, IN. The Office of Judicial Administration efficiently administers all agencies operating under the Chief Justice and Supreme Court, encompassing 200 personnel, fiscal management, communication, and technology. This role is critical as it serves as Accountant 1 – Grants, managing state and federal grants, applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and ensuring fiscal integrity within the court system. The position plays a key part in the State’s new grant management system, supporting judicial administration across Indiana.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Grant Reconciliation & Support: Reconciles state grant reports and acts as the primary contact for Judges and program coordinators throughout pre and post-award phases.
• Financial Tracking & Reporting: Tracks expenses and revenue against grant budgets, providing financial reports and budget feedback to program staff.
• System Management: Creates and maintains projects within PeopleSoft accounting system and future Grant Management Systems, reconciling associated expenses and revenue.
• Payment Processing: Requests payments and draws from granting agencies utilizing their designated systems, and manages invoice processing, requisitions, and purchase orders.
• Issue Resolution & Risk Management: Researches and resolves grant and project issues, reports results to stakeholders, and escalates potential financial risks to management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with core domain knowledge in accounting, specifically working with state and federal grants and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience: Experience with financial report review, general ledger accuracy, variance analysis, and PeopleSoft Financials, along with managing grant-funded expenditures.
• Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage assignments and prioritize tasks, keen attention to detail for tracking work and ensuring accuracy, effective communication skills (written and verbal) for interacting with stakeholders, strong problem-solving skills to identify and implement solutions, and adaptability to new technologies including Microsoft Suite and Supreme Court systems.
• Bonus: Interest in seeking continuing education opportunities for grant-related topics.
