ERCOT operates as the independent system operator for the Texas electric grid, ensuring reliable power delivery to 27 million customers, representing about 90 percent of the state’s electric load. Our mission involves managing the intricate flow of electricity across more than 54,100 miles of transmission lines and over 1,250 generation units. Additionally, we conduct financial settlements for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administer retail switching for millions of competitive choice premises.

As a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, ERCOT fosters a highly collaborative environment, bringing together diverse stakeholders from across the energy sector.
