• Mission: This role establishes, maintains, and coordinates accounting and accounting control policies and procedures to ensure financial integrity and compliance with applicable regulations.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records and financial statements, generating timely standard reports such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements. This includes analyzing and reporting on business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations.
• Accounting Controls & Compliance: Establish, maintain, and coordinate accounting control policies and procedures, ensuring all work adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• General Ledger & Close Process: Manage general ledger accounts by performing various accounting functions (e.g., fixed assets, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing), making accurate journal entries, assisting with monthly and annual close processes, and reconciling accounts in a timely manner while researching and reporting material issues.
• Audit & Assurance Support: Assist with periodic internal and external audits, including taking a significant role in preparing for ERCOT’s annual financial statement audit, and reviewing account reconciliations.
• System Management & Guidance: Contribute to accounting system maintenance, upgrades, and conversion efforts, collaborating with information technology staff, and conduct research to provide accounting guidance for proposed transactions, maintaining regular communication with management to ensure fiscal compliance.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields.
• Experience: Minimum of 0 to 3 years of job-related experience, with requirements varying by level; Level 1 requires no minimum experience, Level 2 requires 2 years beyond degree requirements, and Level 3 requires 3 years beyond degree requirements.
• Skills:
• GAAP Compliance: Strong understanding and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
• Financial Analysis: Ability to prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records and financial statements, and report on business operations.
• Account Reconciliation: Proficiency in reconciling general ledger accounts, researching material discrepancies, and reviewing reconciliations.
• System Proficiency: Competence in using client server financial systems, spreadsheet programs, and database programs.
• Bonus: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
