This opportunity is for a Physician, Internal Medicine [Residency Continuity Clinic Teaching Attending] based in Oakland, CA, with Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG). The position is per-diem and focuses on precepting for the Sutter Alta Bates Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Role Summary:
Residency clinic preceptors are fundamental to graduate medical education. They are responsible for teaching residents how to care for patients in an ambulatory primary care setting, bridging the gap to help residents become practice-ready while ensuring patients receive high-quality care. Preceptors are expected to embody compassion, a commitment to teaching excellence and patient care, professionalism, and a dedication to lifelong learning. They must create an effective learning environment by acting professionally and attending to the well-being of both residents and themselves.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Precept and Supervise: Precept and directly supervise Internal Medicine residents in the primary care continuity clinic.
• Patient Care Oversight: Ensure that patients under the care of residents receive the highest quality of care.
• Medical Education: Teach residents essential medical knowledge, develop their clinical reasoning abilities, and enhance their practice skills necessary for assuming a primary care role post-residency.
• Resident Evaluation: Assist in the formal evaluation of residents’ performance and progress.
• Clinical Management: Participate in the clinical management of the practice, which includes engagement in appropriate clinical staff activities such as quality improvement initiatives.
• Policy Compliance: Ensure that residents adhere to all Sutter Health operational policies, procedures, and processes. This includes compliance with policies related to staffing, scheduling, patient registration, billing, collections, reporting, proper encounter documentation, and medical coding.
