Job Title: Physician, Internal Medicine [Residency Continuity Clinic Teaching Attending]

Location: Oakland, CA (Sutter Alta Bates Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program)

Job Type: Per-diem position.

Opportunity Summary: Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG) is seeking an outstanding Board Eligible/Board Certified (BE/BC) Internal Medicine Physician to serve as a per-diem residency clinic preceptor. This role is fundamental to graduate medical education, focusing on teaching residents how to deliver patient care in an ambulatory primary care setting.

Core Purpose of the Role:
Preceptors act as a crucial bridge, guiding residents to develop and become practice-ready while simultaneously ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care. The role demands individuals who can effectively role model compassion, commitment to excellence in both teaching and patient care, professionalism, and a dedication to lifelong learning. Preceptors are also responsible for fostering an effective learning environment by maintaining professional conduct and attending to the well-being of both residents and themselves.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Precept and Supervise Residents: Directly supervise and guide residents within the primary care continuity clinic.
Ensure High-Quality Patient Care: Maintain oversight to ensure that patients consistently receive the highest quality of medical care.
Teach and Develop Residents: Educate residents on essential medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills necessary for them to competently assume a primary care role after completing their residency.
Assist in Resident Evaluation: Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of residents’ performance and progress.
Clinical Management Participation: Engage in the clinical management aspects of the practice and participate in relevant clinical staff activities, such as quality improvement initiatives.
Policy Compliance: Ensure residents adhere to all operational policies, procedures, and processes set forth by Sutter Health. This includes, but is not limited to, regulations concerning staffing, scheduling, patient registration, billing, collections, reporting, and proper encounter documentation and coding.
