Job Description
Job Title: Nurse Extern I
Summary:
The Nurse Extern I is a developmental role focused on direct patient care, operating under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). This position is designed for nursing students to apply foundational knowledge and skills in a real-world hospital setting, assisting with the care of hospitalized patients in accordance with established Nursing Department policies and procedures. The Nurse Extern I may also be assigned additional functions as required by hospital/department policies, procedures, and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform various direct patient care activities as delegated and supervised by the Registered Nurse.
• Assist the Registered Nurse with the comprehensive care of hospitalized patients.
• Ensure all patient care activities are conducted in strict adherence to Nursing Department policies and procedures.
• Participate in other assigned functions or duties consistent with hospital/department policies, procedures, and protocols.
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Education: Must be currently enrolled in an RN accredited school of professional nursing, pursuing either an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Clinical Experience: Must have successfully completed their first clinical rotation within their nursing program.
• Academic Standing: Must be in good standing within their nursing program.
• Skills: Proficient in basic nursing tasks.
• Experience (Preferred): Six (6) months of experience in a hospital setting is preferred, but not mandatory.
• Certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within two (2) weeks of employment.
