Job Description
This externship program offers a unique opportunity for veterinary students to gain practical, hands-on clinical experience and understand the daily operations of an NVA hospital.
The externship involves:
• Direct Clinical Experience: Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to develop proficiency in:
• Gathering patient histories.
• Performing physical exams.
• Creating treatment plans.
• Conducting diagnostics.
• Assisting with or performing dentistry services.
• Observing, assisting with, or performing surgical procedures.
• Managing medical cases for patients.
• Skill Development: Beyond clinical skills, students will enhance their communication skills by interacting with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
• Program Duration: Most externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student’s availability and the hospital’s schedule.
• Eligibility:
• Externships at Brentwood Family Pet Care are specifically designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
• Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
• Stipend: A travel/living expense stipend is available for eligible students. The stipend amount for externships at Brentwood Family Pet Care is $1,000.
