Job Description

About Company

GRAM is a research and deployment company focused on Self-Replication (SR), believing that the next great leap for humanity will be physical, not digital, akin to how AGI relates to bits, SR relates to atoms. Their overarching mission is to enable humanity to become galactic by fostering physical exponential growth. To achieve this, GRAM conducts foundational research across multiple domains including general-purpose robotics, artificial intelligence, biology, and materials science, with the ambitious goal of enabling SR within our lifetimes.

A core tenet of their approach is to challenge the conventional wisdom that robots should mimic human form, instead advocating for optimization based on function over form. They are dedicated to creating a new embodiment for intelligence, designed from first principles to construct the future physical economy, both on and off-world.

GRAM is an early, focused team of scientists and engineers funded by leading investors and long-term visionaries. They operate with minimal bureaucracy, where ownership and leadership are granted to individuals demonstrating exceptional capability. Every team member directly contributes to their core technology. The company is committed to being an equal opportunity employer, evaluating candidates solely on their capability and drive. Their research lab is located on-site in El Segundo, California, described as the heart of America’s industrial future.

Job Description

This is a traditional 3-4 month internship designed for current PhD students. Interns will join one of GRAM’s dedicated R&D pods, specifically in Hardware, AI, or Science. The core responsibility involves working on a deep, focused research problem that is precisely aligned with both the intern’s academic expertise and GRAM’s core technical challenges. This internship offers a significant opportunity to publish your work and make a tangible contribution to the company’s mission.

The role is on-site at GRAM’s research lab in El Segundo, California. Significant relocation assistance is offered for exceptional candidates.

The interview process begins with a review of the applicant’s portfolio and any exceptional work they have shipped. If the application meets the required caliber, candidates will enter an interview process designed for speed and substance, with an aim to complete it within one week from start to finish.

Compensation for this role reflects both the significance of early-stage equity and competitive market rates. The general framework for all roles at GRAM includes:
Company-Wide Base Salary Range: $75,000 – $300,000 USD, calibrated to your impact potential.
Equity: Substantial ownership stake, commensurate with that of founding team members.
Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, all meals are paid for, and relocation assistance is provided.
