Job Description: Jr. Systems Engineer Internship
This is an internship opportunity expected to span 12 months.
• Position Title: Jr. Systems Engineer Internship
• Location: The role offers two potential locations: Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO, or Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL.
• Relocation Assistance: Not available.
• Remote/Telework: This position is not available for remote work or telework and requires on-site presence.
• Clearance Type: A DoD Secret Clearance is required.
• Shift: Day shift.
• Travel Required: Up to 10% of the time.
Description Of Duties:
This internship supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) under the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. It is an entry-level role designed for collaboration with senior engineers. The primary focus will be on creating and maintaining system models, documenting architectures, and ensuring the traceability of requirements, while also actively contributing to the transition from traditional document-based engineering to modern digital engineering approaches.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
• MBSE Methodologies: Assisting in the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies throughout the system lifecycle, with a focus on requirements analysis, system design, integration, and verification using modeling tools such as SysML and other MBSE-specific software.
• Requirements Management: Assisting in the analysis, definition, and management of system requirements, including their translation into formal representations within MBSE models.
• System Model Development: Contributing to the development and maintenance of system models utilizing MBSE tools like SysML, which are essential for representing system architecture, behavior, and interfaces.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Working effectively with various cross-functional teams, including other engineers and stakeholders, to gather requirements, develop designs, and ensure clear communication of technical information.
• Integration & Verification: Supporting the integration of system elements and assisting in the planning and execution of verification and validation activities to ensure all system requirements are met.
• Tool Proficiency: Gaining proficiency in using MBSE tools and languages like SysML, and potentially learning scripting for automation purposes.
• Digital Engineering Transition: Assisting in the transition from traditional document-centric engineering practices to model-based approaches, including the development and implementation of new MBSE methodologies.

Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
• Work Experience: Must have at least 1 year of general (full-time) work experience.
• On-site Work: Must be able to maintain a restricted badge and work on-site 4 or more days per week.
• MBSE Experience: Must have experience or familiarity with MBSE concepts and tools, particularly SysML.
• Systems Engineering Experience: Must have experience in systems engineering.
• Certifications: Must have, or be able to obtain within 3 months of the start date, a current IAT Level II Certification (Security+ CE).
• Security Clearance: Must have, or be able to obtain, an active DoD Secret Clearance.
Desired Requirements:
• Systems Engineering Principles: Familiarity with systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, functional analysis, and systems integration.
• MDA & MDS Programs: Familiarity with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Missile Defense System (MDS) programs.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Salary: This position is expected to pay $43,000 annually. The final compensation may vary based on experience, education, and any certifications directly related to the position.
• Posting Duration: The position will be posted for a minimum of 3 days. If a suitable candidate is not selected within that period, the posting will continue until one is found or the position is closed.
