About the Company:
Heartland Animal Hospital has been serving the Wichita area since 2000. It is a busy practice with five doctors, ranging from seasoned vets with over 25 years of experience to new graduates. They primarily care for dogs and cats, but occasionally see pocket pets.
Job Description:
Heartland Animal Hospital offers externship opportunities for veterinary students. Externs will be actively involved in various aspects of veterinary practice, working closely with a supervising veterinarian. The externship is designed to provide hands-on experience and enhance clinical skills.
Key Responsibilities & Opportunities:
• Patient History: Gain experience in gathering patient histories.
• Physical Exams: Perform physical examinations.
• Treatment Plans: Assist in the creation of treatment plans.
• Diagnostics: Participate in diagnostic procedures.
• Dentistry Services: Learn about and assist with dental procedures.
• Surgical Procedures: Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures (depending on experience and comfort level).
• Medical Management: Learn about the medical management of patients.
• Communication Skills: Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship Details:
• Duration: Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
• Eligibility: All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate.
• Stipend: Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
