Job Description (Detailed)
This role focuses on direct patient care within Barnes-Jewish Hospital, supporting licensed professional nurses and contributing to a safe, healing environment for patients.
Role Purpose:
The primary purpose of this role is to provide direct patient care under the supervision of licensed professional nurses. The individual will be responsible for supporting a team of patients by ensuring a safe environment and reducing the risk of harm. A key aspect of the role involves collecting vital information on patients and promptly reporting any changes in condition to the nursing team, thereby contributing to the overall assessment of each patient.
Key Responsibilities:
• Direct Patient Care:
• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family-centered care.
• Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
• Performs vital signs, measures intake & output, and implements fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures.
• Provides urinary catheter care.
• Performs phlebotomy and point of care testing as requested.
• Data Collection & Reporting:
• Collects clinical data and information on patients.
• Reports changes in patient status promptly to the nurse.
• Documentation & Communication:
• Assists the nurse with patient and family education.
• Documents all patient care activities provided using correct medical terminology.
• Patient Safety & Support:
• Acts as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary to ensure continuous observation and safety.
• Resource Management:
• Ensures the availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient’s needs.
• Quality & Professional Development:
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Engages in professional development opportunities.
Working Hours & Schedule:
• 24 Hours Per Week.
• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
• Includes Holiday Rotation.
• Includes Weekend Rotation.
Compensation & Bonuses:
• Sign-On Bonus Eligible – $500.
Eligibility & Requirements:
• Minimum Requirements:
• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: No Experience required.
• Supervisor Experience: No Supervisor Experience required.
• Preferred Experience:
• Experience as a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant), nurse assistant, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), or surgical technician.
• Preferred Licenses & Certifications:
• Certified Nurse Assistant.
