Job Description:
The Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for multiple fully-funded PhD positions and research internships in the field of trustworthy and efficient artificial intelligence. These positions will be supervised by Dr. Guanchu Wang, who will be joining the department as an assistant professor in Fall 2025.
The research group focuses on advancing the interpretability, safety, and efficiency of AI, with a particular emphasis on applications in healthcare.
Research Areas Include, But Are Not Limited To:
• Reasoning and interpretability in large language models (LLMs)
• Efficient adaptation, alignment, and debiasing of foundation models (including vision-language models)
• Development of trustworthy AI solutions for healthcare applications
Requirements:
• A strong academic background in computer science or a related field
• Self-motivation and a demonstrated interest in AI research
• For PhD positions: a completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline
• For research internships: open to students at various academic levels; both remote and in-person options are available
Additional Information:
• PhD positions are available for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 entry
• Research internships are available year-round, with flexible start dates from Fall 2025 onward
• The lab is equipped with sufficient GPU computing resources
