Job Description: DoD SkillBridge Aviation Maintenance Intern

This internship is designed for transitioning service members currently serving in the U.S. military and eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program. It offers an opportunity to further develop aviation maintenance skills and gain valuable civilian experience before leaving military service.

Purpose: To connect highly qualified transitioning service members with an aviation maintenance internship.
Program Type: Internship
Program Timeline: 2-6 months
Responsibilities:
• Reading and interpreting technical manuals and guidelines.
• Learning basic principles of inspections, installations, repairs, and other aircraft maintenance activities.
• Diagnosing mechanical or electrical problems.
• Repairing aircraft systems and determining the serviceability of aircraft parts.
• Inspecting and maintaining aircraft according to company and regulatory standards.
• Maintaining repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
• Modifying aircraft structures, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.
• Replacing or repairing worn, defective, or damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Assembling and installing electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories using hand or power tools.
Schedule: Monday – Friday 0700-1600, lunch 1200-1300 (not to exceed 40 hours/week)
Key Aspects of the Internship:
• Service members receive full military pay and benefits during the internship.
• The internship aims to complement, not displace, the work of paid employees, while providing significant educational benefits.
• There is no guarantee of a paid job at the conclusion of the internship.
• The Service member will work under the close supervision of the organization’s staff.

Skills/Qualifications

• Technical and mechanical aptitude; aviation maintenance strongly preferred
• High school education or GED equivalent is required, some college preferred
• Excellent communication and organization skills
• Coachability, desire to learn and apply training
• Must be a self-starter and highly motivated, able to work with minimal guidance
• Organized, able to adapt to changing priorities and fast-paced environment
• Ability to perform basic math calculations
Must provide own tools at completion of program (tool list to be provided)
• Ability to:
• Crawl in and out of tight spaces
• Comfortably work at elevated heights of at least 40 feet for extended periods of time
• Lift, balance and carry 50lbs.
• Work in enclosed hangars and exterior weather conditions
• Work in close proximity to other people
