Job Description: Machinist Intern
This is an internship position designed to provide hands-on learning in the operation of machining equipment. The intern will assist in the manufacturing of precision parts and components under direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and learn machining equipment to produce components as required by written instructions.
• Change, set, and adjust precision tools as required.
• Load and delete programs in the computer.
• Maintain specific tolerances and accurately perform dimensions.
• Assist in checking parts using specified gages or furnished fixtures to ensure dimensions are maintained.
• Perform routine maintenance checks and reports improper machine function.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
• Follow all applicable safety rules and precautions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Basic knowledge of or ability to learn the machinability of metals, with a good mechanical aptitude.
• Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
• Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating instructions, blueprints).
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of relevant experience and/or training.
Work Environment:
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil-based lubricants, and cleaning solutions.
• Occasional exposure to moderate cold and extreme heat.
• Moderate to average noise levels.
Physical Demands:
• Regular use of hands for fingering, handling, and feeling.
• Verbal communication and hearing ability required.
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, or crouching.
• Occasional sitting.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Close vision required.
