Job Description:
This is a temporary position for nursing students to gain practical experience in various nursing areas. As a Nursing Student, you will be co-assigned with a Registered Nurse (RN) and will perform direct and indirect patient care under their supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
• Patient Care: Assist the RN in providing direct patient care, including activities of daily living, promoting patient comfort, and facilitating diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Procedures: Perform designated procedures as needed, following departmental guidelines.
• Observation and Reporting: Accurately observe, record, and report patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to the RN.
• Examination Assistance: Assist the RN with examinations and procedures.
• Competency Development: Demonstrate competency in basic and intermediate care skills, validated by nurse mentors, preceptors, managers, and/or directors.
• Education: Actively seek educational opportunities and assist in peer education to enhance competence.
• Environment Maintenance: Assist the RN with indirect care by maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe patient care environment.
• Equipment Management: Clean assigned unit equipment according to schedule and keep work areas free of equipment.
• Patient Safety: May act as a sitter for patients as assigned by the charge RN.
• Medication Handling: May have limited access to medication including during transport of non-controlled substances at the request of a licensed care provider.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be entering their final semester/year of a Diploma Program, Associate, or Baccalaureate RN program from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
Physical Requirements:
• Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy loads.
• Possess visual, auditory, and oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.
