Job Description:
This is an internship position for a Fleet Mechanic Intern. Under the supervision of a designated supervisor, the intern will observe and assist with Fleet Mechanic tasks to gain on-the-job exposure and experience in performing various automotive technician duties.
• Purpose: The internship aims to provide varied and meaningful learning experiences to the student, while also providing work assistance to the City.
• Responsibilities:
• Actively participate in a wide variety of fleet maintenance tasks.
• Undertake work that involves the use of technical skills.
• Completing job tasks within given parameters.
• Requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to speak clearly and persuasively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledgeable in basic technical concepts related to the internship.
• Minimum Requirements:
• Must be actively enrolled and attending an accredited college/university.
• Physical Demands: The job requires a range of physical activities, including balancing, climbing, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
• Work Environment:
• Tasks are performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, and risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke.
• Contact with internal and external customers, vendors and the general public
• May be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of vibration.
• Work Performed: Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Emergency Situation: Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice. Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.
