About the Company:

Microsoft Health Futures is an interdisciplinary research group within Microsoft dedicated to accelerating biomedical discovery. The team comprises researchers, data scientists, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, engineers, physicians, and user experience researchers. Job Description: Research Internship at Microsoft Health Futures

Microsoft Health Futures is seeking Research Interns to contribute to their ongoing research and development efforts. This 12-week internship offers a dynamic environment to learn from and collaborate with leading researchers, doctoral candidates, and other interns. Interns will be paired with mentors and are expected to:

Contribute to original research: The internship focuses on tackling real-world challenges in biomedical informatics, AI UX research & design innovation, and human-computer interaction. Interns will work on projects ranging from foundational research to the creation of design artifacts. Experience with “zero to one” project ideas is highly valued.

Engage in the design process: Interns should be comfortable with ideation, user-centered design processes, and translating user needs into actionable solutions. Skills in creating customer journey maps and service blueprints are preferred.

Collaborate and present: Interns will work collaboratively with other interns, researchers, and their mentors. Presentation of findings is an integral part of the role.

Apply analytical skills: Strong analytical abilities are essential, including experience with user research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative). Knowledge of biomedical data challenges for AI model development and familiarity with relevant data platforms are also important.

Conduct stakeholder engagement: Experience conducting stakeholder interviews in healthcare, life sciences, or public health settings is highly desirable.

Specific areas of expertise sought include: biomedical informatics, AI UX research & design innovation, and human-computer interaction. A strong understanding of user-centered design methods and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams are crucial. Familiarity with design and ideation tools like Figma, InVision, and Miro is preferred.

Location: Interns are expected to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship.

Compensation: The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,550 – $12,880 per month, with a higher range (USD $8,480 – $13,920 per month) applicable to specific locations within the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan areas. Some roles may be eligible for additional benefits.
