Job Description: Geotechnical Engineering Intern – Summer 2025 (Part-Time)
Overview: WSP’s Earth & Environment team in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a part-time Geotechnical Engineering Intern for a 12-week summer internship (May 19th, 2025, start date flexible). This internship is part of WSP’s Summer Internship Program and offers hands-on experience working alongside senior staff. The internship is open to undergraduate or graduate students. There is no relocation or housing assistance provided.
Responsibilities:
• Support various engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn fundamental Civil and Geotechnical Engineering principles.
• Assist with project research, fieldwork, preliminary design calculations, and analysis.
• Contribute to the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Aid in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete assigned training.
• Practice responsible and ethical decision-making concerning company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
• Active enrollment in an accredited Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or related undergraduate program, with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Demonstrated interest in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, with a strong desire to enhance skills relevant to WSP’s work.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effectively conveying ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to follow directions from supervisors and mentors to successfully execute projects.
• Basic proficiency in technical writing, office software (spreadsheets, etc.), and technology tools.
• Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Enrollment in an accredited Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or related master’s or PhD program, with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
• Prior internship experience.
• Leadership roles in campus activities.
