Senior Engineering Manager – TDP Insights and Data Resiliency | Atlassian

The Tone:
This is a full-time Senior Engineering Manager role at Atlassian, located in India. Atlassian builds software products designed to unleash the potential of every team globally. This role is crucial for leading the TDP Insights and Atlassian Data Resiliency (ADR) engineering team, which provides secure, reliable, and scalable data capabilities for customer data, meeting complex enterprise requirements like data residency, encryption, compliance, and multi-cloud operation. The position is essential for ensuring Atlassian understands, protects, and recovers its customer data effectively.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Location: Remote – India
• Team: Leads the TDP Insights and ADR engineering team.
• Mission: To lead the TDP Insights and ADR engineering team, delivering trusted platform insights and recovery capabilities, and translating complex customer, reliability, and infrastructure requirements into a clear and executable roadmap.
• Tech Stack: High-volume platform telemetry, Kafka, Flink, analytical query platforms, distributed storage, backup and restore systems, multi-cloud infrastructure, internal developer platforms.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop engineers and senior technical leaders, building an inclusive, high-performing team through effective hiring, talent development, and succession planning.
• Strategic Roadmapping: Define and execute the TDP Insights and ADR strategy and roadmap, translating enterprise, product, platform, and recovery requirements into measurable outcomes and engineering plans.
• Operational Excellence: Own the operational health of TDP Insights and ADR capabilities, including availability, data quality, performance, security, and recoverability, while establishing sustainable on-call practices.
• Technical Direction: Partner with senior technical leaders to establish architectural direction, guiding the evolution of large-scale telemetry, analytics, backup, restore, and recovery capabilities across multiple cloud providers.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Build trusted partnerships across product, engineering, security, and other teams, coordinating effectively across India, Australia, and the United States to resolve dependencies and represent the team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Engineering Manager. Core domain knowledge in building or operating business-critical distributed systems, data platforms, analytics platforms, storage services, or resiliency platforms.
• Experience: Significant engineering leadership experience, operating large-scale production systems with clear service-level objectives, and delivering enterprise capabilities such as data residency, encryption, or backup and recovery. Proven ability to lead incident response and convert operational learning into lasting improvements, with experience leading teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
• Skills: Strong people leadership skills including coaching, performance management, organizational design, and hiring. Experience converting ambiguous strategies into clear roadmaps. Strong understanding of distributed systems, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, reliability engineering, security, and operational risk. Strong cross-functional influence and clear communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with high-scale telemetry and analytics systems, streaming and data-processing technologies (e.g., Kafka or Flink), analytical query platforms, distributed storage, backup and restore systems, multi-cloud infrastructure, or internal developer platforms.
