The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Xometry, located in Hybrid – USA. Xometry powers industries by connecting innovators with manufacturers, enabling Fortune 1000 companies to access global manufacturing capacity. This role specifically supports Thomasnet, Xometry’s industrial platform, which is evolving from a traditional supplier directory to an AI-assisted sourcing platform. The Senior Software Engineer will be crucial in building and maintaining the systems for this strategic shift, including AI-powered features.

• Mission: Lead the design and delivery of systems and AI-powered features for Thomasnet’s shift to AI-assisted sourcing.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Technical Leadership: Lead by example through active coding, reviewing, and troubleshooting, establishing good coding patterns and designs for the team.
• Feature Ownership: Independently design and deliver features end-to-end within your team, from problem identification to production, including AI-powered capabilities, ensuring accuracy and safety.
• Mentorship and Review: Guide and mentor other engineers on the team, performing thorough code reviews to raise the overall bar for review quality.
• Operational Excellence: Take ownership of testing and reliability for delivered software, ensuring it meets both customer expectations and business timelines.
• System Building: Build and maintain the product experiences and AI-powered features for buyers and suppliers as Thomasnet transitions to AI-assisted sourcing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior level software development experience, focused on outcomes over output, with a habit of helping shape the team’s direction.
• Experience: 6+ years of software development experience with strong full-stack skills applicable to modern stacks, including backend services in TypeScript and Node.js with GraphQL, a React and Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL, and search such as OpenSearch. Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features like LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, or search relevance.
• Skills: Strong execution, debugging, and communication skills; prioritizes unit and integration testing; a fast learner with high agency who works fluently in an AI-native development environment and shares what they learn.
• Bonus: Experience with multimodal (image and text) embeddings and search, agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain), fine-tuning or adapting models for a domain, or e-commerce or marketplace product experience.
